BLUE HAWAII was Elvis's soundtrack by Elvis. RCA released in on October 20, 1961 after recording the tracks in studio and on the movie set the previous six to eight months. It was nominated for a Grammy in 61 for "Best Soundtrack for a movie." The movie was one of Elvis's better performances and one he enjoyed making most. Originally made as a GOLD RECORD for RCA, it became Platinum and the new Platinum LP replaced the gold record on the award. But out of the soundtrack came "Can't Help Falling in Love," which ended up being Elvis's standard "closer" for his extraordinary concerts in the 70's and one of his great all-time hits. Had WEST SIDE STORY not made its debut that year, Elvis would not have come in 2nd to it on the Billboard charts. Blue Hawaii has sold far more than the 3-million depicted on this award (See the Pineapple verbiage).
