Note: With its fortress-like walls & towers, the Moundsville penitentiary remained in continuous operation until 1995 & served as the core of West Virginia's corrections system for much of that time. Located in Moundsville, WV it is now a withdrawn & retired gothic-style prison that operated from 1866-1995. The site is now maintained as a tourist attraction, museum, training facility, paranormal activities & filming location.
