Albert Ludovici, Jr, (1852-1932), signed 'Ludovici'. This is a facsimile print on canvas. 'The Pickwickians Leaving The Golden Cross for Rochester" shows the departure of a coach from the Golden Cross Family Hotel. The Coaching Series by Charles Dickens. The print dates to early 1900s. Back of the canvas is the publishers product mark, Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd. (1866 - 1959). The first photo was said to have been printed on canvas during the 1840s. At this time in history, canvas prints existed. Prints on canvas was inspired by the materials used by fine art painters. Ludovici primarily exhibited his paintings in London. Raphael Tuck & Sons began publishing in London, England in 1866. Carved wood gilt gold frame 17 x 24 1/2" x 1 1/2", sight 12" x 19 1/2". Very good antique condition. "/698" is written in pencil on back of frame but don't know if it is a limited no. made cause illegible. Name plate on back. Glass front -no scratches camera glare. Frame -a few sm chips. 5 lbs. 11 oz.
