Indigenous to North American tribes. "Southeastern Tribes" traditional ceremonial and social dance gourd rattles. Gourds are dried naturally (outdoors and inside). Carefully cut at the end, seeds painstakingly removed, gourd cleaned inside and out with knives, "pokers" and "raspers" as well as river rocks (rounded "old/tumbled-naturally") flint/chert stone that is gathered from riverbed areas. Proper handles are procured and shaped, plugs are carved until they fit the hole and attached in one of 2 ways. They are "all natural" except we have used a modern (the best) glue. We won't have any more gourds this year until we've planted and harvested the next crop unless we "happen-onto" some in our travels. If you take care of them they will last a long time. The unpainted ones can be rubbed with (almost any) light oil to retain their present properties. Yes, we may have a couple of box-turtle rattles soon. Thanks for lookin'.
